Creating Accessible Neighbourhoods

Who We Are

Creating Accessible Neighbourhoods (CAN) is committed to equity, diversity, and accessibility. CAN recognizes that people with disabilities and/or chronic health conditions have multiple intersecting identities that affect their experiences and daily life. CAN represents and honours all identities by centering decolonization and using both an intersectional lens and disability justice framework.

Why We Are Involved

Our organization was created by disabled people for disabled people. Equity and accessibility are core components of our organization and the work that we do.

Accessibility Initiatives

As an organization that assists others in ensuring accessibility, equity, and diversity, we practice what we teach. As educators, we believe it is vital to also be constantly learning about how to better meet the needs of a broad spectrum of disabled folk and their intersecting identities. This includes ongoing education, feedback, community consultation, and more.
