Accessibility Initiatives

  • ‘Welcoming People with Disability’ accessibility e-learning module which new joiners complete as part of their on-boarding. The module intends to make persons with disabilities feel welcome at HSBC, be they clients or colleagues.
  • ‘Ability’, one of nine Employee Resource Groups, champions’ education and awareness programs, facilitates open discussion of workplace issues, and consults with senior leadership.
  • Dedicated Diversity Recruitment Specialist to identify candidates with disabilities.
  • Work with more than 30 community organizations and universities to identify qualified persons with disabilities as candidates for actual job openings, including: Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work, Canadian Hearing Society, CNIB, Epilepsy Toronto, Spinal Cord Injury Ontario and Neil Squire Society, as well as participating in career fairs targeted at persons with disabilities.
  • 17 global disability smart guides contain helpful advice on supporting colleagues with a range of disabilities.
  • Developed personalized evacuation plans for existing and new employees with disabilities.
  • Offer interpreting services to support employees’ day to-day-needs, as well during large meetings, national town halls and interview periods.
  • Dedicated Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Leader to deliver on our diversity and inclusion strategy.
  • Disability is one of four key global diversity and inclusion focus areas for HSBC in 2019 and 2020.
  • Celebrate and recognize the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3) and World Autism Day (April 2).

Accessibility Highlights

  • Published the HSBC Bank Canada Accessibility Plan (2023-2025).
  • Launched the Global Disability Confidence Program in 2019 – a program to improve disability inclusion and confidence across the bank while increasing awareness of the challenges faced by people with disabilities and the opportunities to address these challenges. Includes a Disability Confidence assessment tool to benchmark local activity against HSBC’s Disability Standards and develop a roadmap to close identified gaps.
  • Canada is one of eight countries represented on the HSBC Global Disability Confidence working Group.
