Accessibility Initiatives

Return to Work Program

  • The City values its employees and is committed to facilitating an early and safe return to work for employees on disability leave. We make every reasonable effort to provide a meaningful and productive employment environment where individuals can maintain their dignity and respect while rehabilitating from their illness, injury, or disability.

Accommodation Policy

  • Our Accommodation Policy ensures employees are protected under the BC Human Rights Code and are able to work effectively, by making adjustments or modifications to the work or the work environment.

Accessible British Columbia Act

  • In response to this legislation, which was granted royal assent in 2021, the City of Burnaby formed an Accessibility Committee to identify and remove barriers experienced by individuals engaging with City services.
  • This Committee represents BC’s diverse population, including more than half of members being persons with disabilities and at least one member being an Indigenous person.
  • Both the Committee and the City are tasked with revising and refreshing their accessibility strategy every three years, taking into account feedback from the public.
