Buy Social Canada
Who We Are
Buy Social Canada is a social enterprise that works to change the practice of purchasing from transactional to transformational.
We work in the public and private sectors in Canada to advocate for and support social procurement policy design and implementation so that procurement contributes to community social and economic goals. We see opportunities to buy and sell with impact at all levels in the marketplace.
Through social procurement advocacy, education, and consulting, we’ve seen social enterprises grow, succeed, and achieve significant impact because of the increase in social procurement. As we create a social value marketplace, we are unleashing the transformative power of the market.
Why We Are Involved
In our work to advance social procurement and social enterprise, our goal is to support healthy, vibrant communities that create opportunity and inclusion for all people. Healthy communities are rich in community capital, a combination of human, social, cultural, physical, and economic capital.
We recognize that people with disabilities are one of the communities that experience inequitable access to economic opportunity and participation in society.
As community capital creation leaders in Canada, Buy Social Canada hopes to ensure accessibility across our internal processes and culture so that we can continue to be trustworthy guides in our communities.
Accessibility Initiatives
Buy Social Canada has an Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) Policy that puts into action our commitment to provide an equitable and inclusive workplace regardless of a person’s race, gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, socio-economic background, physical or mental ability, or any other aspect of the person’s identity.
Through the IDEA policy, we have worked with an external consultant to improve the accessibility standards for our documents, including templates, policies, guidelines and employee manuals, as well as public documents.
Our team works remotely from the comfort of their home and we provide employees with a Work From Home fund to use for any workspace modification or improvement they require. For example, this fund could be used for the purchase of ergonomic furniture or office equipment, and specific software that facilitate any accommodations needed as the employee’s discretion.
Additionally, as part of our group benefits for team members, we provide coverage for costs such as gender affirmation procedures, psychologists, speech therapists, health and wellness resources, and wheelchair accessibility home and vehicle modifications, among others.
