CBRE Limited - Accessible Employers

CBRE Limited

Who we are

CBRE is a real estate services firm with a strong presence globally and across Canada. In our Vancouver office, we have about 160 employees and another 12 in Victoria. While we’re part of a large, international organization, our local teams are deeply rooted in the communities we serve.

We’re focused on creating a workplace that’s inclusive, people-first, and constantly evolving. We’ve been taking a closer look at how we operate, and accessibility has become a key area where we know we can do better. We’re committed to learning, improving, and making sure our spaces and practices reflect the diverse needs of our employees and clients.

Why we are involved

We’re getting involved because we know there’s room to grow and we’re ready to do the work. As part of our ESG overhaul, accessibility has become a key focus. For us, it’s not about ticking boxes, it’s about making our spaces and practices genuinely welcoming for everyone.

When we designed our Victoria office using Rick Hansen Foundation guidelines, it made us aware of barriers we hadn’t fully considered before. That experience pushed us to think more critically about accessibility. We’re committed to learning, improving, and making meaningful changes.

Joining the Community of Accessible Employers is a step toward that. It’s a chance to learn from others, share what we’re working on, and stay accountable. We’re excited to be part of a network that’s helping make BC a more inclusive place to work.

Accessibility initiatives

We’re still early in our accessible employment journey, but we’ve started taking meaningful steps.

Most recently, we submitted our Victoria office for Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification, and that process has helped us identify areas for improvement. We’re now beginning to explore similar changes in our Vancouver office.

At the national level, CBRE Canada has implemented several policies and practices to support accessibility, such as:

  1. A Disability Accommodation Policy and Workplace Accessibility Policy that guide how we support employees and applicants with disabilities.
  2. A commitment to accessible recruitment and hiring, including accommodations during interviews and assessments.
  3. Individual accommodation plans and return-to-work processes for employees who need them.
  4. Workplace emergency response plans tailored to employees with disabilities.
  5. Ongoing efforts to remove barriers and promote equal opportunity, in alignment with accessibility legislation across provinces.
