Pledge to Measure Goes National: Strengthening Workplace Accessibility Across Canada!

At Open Door Group, we believe employment is key to one’s purpose, value, and community belonging and know that the more diverse and inclusive a workplace, the stronger and more resilient the business. Since 1976, we have helped businesses thrive by breaking down employment barriers and fostering inclusive workplaces.

Accessible Employers, which Open Door Group now operates, has developed tools and resources that help businesses build diverse, inclusive, and accessible workplaces. One such initiative, created and launched by Accessible Employers in 2021, the Pledge to Measure (PTM) is now taking a major step forward in this mission by expanding across Canada!

Accessibility: A Canadian Standard for Business Success

Did you know that 1 in 4 Canadians has a visible or invisible disability? Inclusive hiring isn’t just about doing the right thing, it’s a smart business strategy. Companies that prioritize accessibility experience higher employee retention, stronger innovation, and increased profitability (Make it Count guidebook, 2024). For years, accessibility is not just a competitive advantage, it’s a Canadian standard for success!

That’s where Pledge to Measure comes in. Designed to support businesses in building inclusive workplaces, PTM provides the tools needed to gain a competitive edge through measuring for disability inclusion.

Pledge to Measure: A Proven Tool for Business Success

Launched in 2021 by Accessible Employers, a program now operated by Open Door Group, PTM is a structured, easy-to-use framework that helps organizations:

  • Report on disability inclusion through employee and senior leader disability self-disclosure.
  • Track progress on workplace accessibility.
  • Celebrate year-over-year success and drive industry-wide change.

In just a few years, 55 organizations have joined PTM, positively impacting over 94,000 employees. With its expansion across Canada in 2025, even more businesses will have access to the tools needed to enhance workplace equity and foster inclusive cultures.

“The national expansion of Pledge to Measure marks a significant milestone in advancing workplace accessibility across Canada. By providing organizations with a clear framework to track and celebrate their progress, we are ensuring that accessibility remains a key priority for businesses of all sizes. Together, we can build a more inclusive workforce where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.”

— Yat Li, Associate Director, Inclusive Employment Services, Open Door Group

Why Join Pledge to Measure?

By joining the movement to measure disability inclusion, businesses gain access to:

  • Comprehensive support to measure disability disclosure for the first time OR build the Pledge to Measure into existing workplace systems.
  • Grow your business alongside a network of inclusive employers committed to fostering more accessible workplaces.
  • Expert guidance to implement sustainable, inclusive practices.

Accessibility isn’t just about compliance, it’s about unlocking potential, fostering innovation, and strengthening workplace culture. By committing to measure and improve upon representation of employees with disabilities, businesses are not only advancing accessibility but also investing in their own long-term success.

“The Pledge to Measure is an integral part of our DEI strategy. It is one of the factors that contributes to creating an inclusive workplace. With resources from Accessible Employers, we are able to provide education about the importance of acknowledging disability in the workplace.”

— Sarah White, Co-Founder and COO, Fairware
