Webnames.ca Inc.

Who We Are

Webnames.ca is Canada’s original domain registrar and a one-stop convenience for the online needs of individuals, small businesses, nonprofit organizations and corporations. Canadian owned and operated since 2000, Webnames.ca began as a spin-off from the Internet pioneers who founded the .CA country code in 1987.

We are headquartered in Vancouver and have registered hundreds of thousands of domain names, host thousands of websites and manage domain portfolios for many of Canada’s Fortune 500 through our Corporate Services division, including Yellow Pages Group, CanWest Global, ING, Canadian Tire and many others.

Our mission is to connect clients with the tools they require to create, protect and promote their online presence. Our bilingual customer support team is the heart of our company and the foundation of our relationship with customers. In addition to being the best and the brightest, our team is passionate about customer service.

Webnames.ca strives to make a positive impact in the community by supporting local organizations and charitable initiatives. We mentor, sponsor and participate on the boards of numerous nonprofit technology, small business and entrepreneurial organizations. Webnames has actively supported campaigns such as Girls in STEAM by Science World, Daffodil Dash as part of fundraising for the Cancer Society among others.

Webnames is led by serial entrepreneur, Cybele Negris and one of her co-founders, John Demco who was responsible for claiming the .CA domain name for Canada. Webnames.ca director and partner John Demco is a true innovator and visionary. With 3 women in its leadership group and a diverse, vastly experienced roster of staff, Webnames strives to deliver excellent, reliable service to customers.

Why We Are Involved

Diversity and inclusion are embedded in our company values and business. At Webnames, we treat our staff more like a family and are proud to have our employees genuinely enjoy deeper, more fulfilling interactions with each other. That can only come when there is a culture of openness and acceptance for everyone, regardless of personal circumstance.

We believe the diversity of our leadership team and employees — their individual backgrounds, training, talents, and ideas – gives us a competitive advantage by enhancing our client relationships, innovation and product development.

Several of our staff members have continued to work with us for over 15 years and our commitment to diversity is certainly a contributing factor to that longevity.

Webnames and Webnames Corporate are proud to be certified as a majority women-owned and minority-owned business through WBE (Women’s Business Enterprise) Canada and CAMSC (Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Supplier Council) — the only domain name registrar with these designations.

Accessibility Initiatives

Webnames has always fostered a culture of inclusion and has instituted HR policies and employee sensitivity training to that end.

Even prior to the pandemic induced shift to remote work, Webnames enabled staff to work remotely. In the last two years, Webnames has transitioned to support work-from-home for all employees who need it.

By joining this initiative, we hope to learn more about measures and initiatives we can institute and adopt.
